DRC Aquaculture Market

The DRC aquafeed market is shifting from start-up to growth. As tilapia and catfish farming expands, demand for quality feed is surging.
While the market currently relies on imports and small local mills, larger farms are now moving toward stable pellet feed. This opens a significant window for professional equipment and complete production line solutions.
The market faces two main hurdles: Supply and Cost.
• Supply: Local capacity is weak. High-quality feed is imported, making it expensive and unreliable.
• Cost: Raw material shortages and volatile protein prices keep production costs high.
• Technology: Outdated equipment and technology limit pellet quality and conversion rates. Additionally, farmers are price-sensitive and hesitant to adopt high-end feed.
With the Congo River basin’s aquaculture potential rising, the market is set for a structural upgrade.
The future lies in localization: building small-to-medium feed mills, introducing flexible pellet lines, and creating formulas that utilize local raw materials.
Client Project Details
This project is a small but highly efficient fish feed production line, specifically designed for the DRC market. With a capacity of 1 ton per hour, it focuses on producing feed for tilapia and catfish.
Our core design philosophy is “Local Adaptation.”
We have customized the grinding, conditioning, and pelleting processes to handle local, unconventional raw materials such as cassava, banana by-products, palm kernel cake, and black soldier fly larvae. This ensures the stable production of sinking and floating feed with excellent water stability.
The feed production line uses a modular design. Clients can flexibly choose between a full one-time setup or a phased approach, based on their site size, power supply, and initial investment budget.
From grinding and mixing to pelleting, drying, cooling, and packing, the entire system is tightly integrated. It features a simple and intuitive interface. The design requires low maintenance skills, making it easy for local technical workers in the DRC to master quickly.

This project establishes a self-owned, sustainable, and cost-controlled local feed production system for the client.

It also provides ample room for future upgrades, whether for expanding capacity or adding other aquaculture species.

Custom-Tailored Solution
RICHI always puts the real needs of customers first. Before providing a feed production solution, we researched customers’ core pain points:

Which farming stage are you planning to target with your feed?

Do you plan to use ring-die pelleting or twin-screw extrusion?

For the post-extrusion coating system, are you considering spraying fish oil, lecithin, or a composite liquid additive?

Are your current customers mainly large-scale farms or distributors?
After discussing the details, we finalized the setup. As the client will source finished powder materials and has his own packaging equipment,
our aquatic feed plant design focuses on the following key production stages:
Mixing System
Blends various powder raw materials according to the formula, ensuring uniform nutrient distribution.
01
Extrusion System
Uses high temperature, high pressure, and screw extrusion to cook and shape the materials. This produces floating feed pellets that are uniform in size, water-stable, and highly digestible.
02
Drying System
Removes excess moisture from the extruded pellets to lower the water content. This prevents mildew and ensures the products are safe for storage and transport.
03
Spraying System
Evenly applies oils, vitamins, and amino acids onto the surface of the dried pellets. This enhances nutritional value and palatability while minimizing nutrient loss.
04
Cooling System
Cools the coated pellets down to room temperature, preventing caking and moisture absorption.

Complete Fish Feed Plant Delivery Process

Machine Production
After the customer confirmed the plan and signed the contract, our factory immediately began production.
During production, our engineers rigorously monitor every step—from material selection to assembly and commissioning—following unified quality standards to ensure reliable performance and stable operation.
At the same time, to let customers know the progress more, we regularly capture photos and videos of the equipment manufacturing process, showcasing key equipment and semi-finished products. In this way, customers can clearly see the whole process of step-by-step molding of the whole production line even if they are not on site.

Equipment Delivery
Once all fish feed production equipment is fully manufactured and the necessary accessories for the aquatic feed production line are prepared, we will arrange shipment according to the delivery schedule confirmed with you.
As a long-established manufacturer in the feed equipment industry, we have a mature global delivery system. Our feed production equipment has been successfully exported to over 140 countries and regions.
Whether your project is located in DRC or elsewhere, we can ensure the safe and timely delivery of the equipment to the project site through standardized logistics solutions and end-to-end tracking services.

Installation, Commissioning, and Training
After the equipment arrives at the customer’s project site, we offer flexible installation support options: You can install it yourself or have our engineers assist on-site.
For this project, the customers chose self-installation. To ensure a smooth installation, we provided detailed installation drawings in advance and provided online guidance. If any problems arise during installation, our technical team will timely provide solutions to get the line running smoothly.
After the feed production line is installed and commissioned, we provide customers with training, either online or on-site. This training covers equipment operation, routine maintenance, and production process management, ensuring safe and skilled use of the entire feed production line.
Customer Evaluation and Project Operation Status
Recently, our after-sales department received feedback from the client:
“RICHI’s engineers asked very detailed questions before signing the contract, like whether we use dry or wet cassava, and about our site’s power supply and worker skills. Honestly, we hadn’t thought that deep about it before.
The final design is perfectly suited to our local conditions and is much better than the self-mixed feed we used to use.
We handled the installation ourselves with their remote guidance. Whenever we had issues, a quick video call solved everything. We are very satisfied overall.”

Types of Feed Suitable for Production In DRC
(1)Aquatic Feed (Priority)
It is best to start with basic sinking feed and gradually transition to floating extruded feed. This sector is highly compatible with “small and medium-sized pellet/extrusion production lines.”
Tilapia Feed
Catfish Feed
(2)Poultry Feed (Stable Demand)
Compared to aquatic feed, poultry feed has a more mature process and lower technical barrier, making it suitable for quick production. Both mash and pellet forms are available, with a focus on cost control and basic nutritional formulation.
Chicken Feed
(3)General Livestock Feed (Flexible Option)
These feeds have lower equipment requirements. They serve as a “supplementary product line” for initial projects, helping to improve equipment utilization and stabilize cash flow.
Pig Feed
Ruminant Concentrate
