The Philippines Aquaculture Market

The Philippine aquaculture (fish farming) industry has strong growth potential. Key farmed species include shrimp, tilapia, and milkfish. As demand for seafood rises both locally and globally, the country is improving its farming technology and management practices. This progress is clear from the rising need for fish feed—its annual growth rate has reached about 15% in recent years. This shows that markets increasingly want high-quality, nutritionally balanced feed.
Despite the promising industry outlook, current development faces several challenges.
Many feed ingredients must be imported, raising costs. Farming infrastructure is underdeveloped, and small-scale farmers often lack consistent technical skills. These issues slow down efforts to scale up and modernize the industry.
Looking ahead, the aquaculture market is expected to keep expanding, driving further growth in feed demand.
Major companies are already adopting new technologies, automated equipment, and local production methods to cut costs and boost efficiency. Additionally, as international markets open up and foreign investment increases, the industry could gain more funding, advanced techniques, and expertise—accelerating its upgrade and development.
Detalhes do projeto do cliente
Located in Luzon, Philippines, this project was launched by a large local aquatic feed manufacturer to meet rapidly growing demand from tilapia and milkfish farming market.
Previously, the customer relied entirely on imported feed due to lacking their own production capacity– resulting in high costs and unreliable supply. Therefore, they decided to build a local fish feed production line to solve these issues.
RICHI Machinery designed and delivered a floating fish feed making line with a capacity of 5 tons per hour, based on the customers’ needs.
The entire line utilizes a wet extrusion process and is equipped with an automatic batching system, a high-efficiency twin screw extruder, an energy-saving drying system, and a spraying machine. The line produces floating feed pellets (1.5–5 mm in size) with stable quality.
Since the Philippines imports some raw materials (e.g., fish meal, soybean), RICHI engineered the line to flexibly blend local ingredients (corn, bran) with imported additives. And the compact design (fitting within 1,500–2,000 m²) also matched the customers’ existing facility layout, reducing construction costs.

In this project, RICHI not only provided equipment design, manufacturing, and installation, but also assisted the customers in plant layout optimization, staff training, and operational testing, delivering a turnkey project.

After the project was put into operation, the client reached full production capacity within 30 days and successfully entered the regional market.

Custom-Tailtored Solution
RICHI always puts the real needs of customers first. Before providing a feed production solution, we will research customers’ core pain points:

What’s the size and height of the available factory building? How much power is available, and do you have steam and water supply? On how many floors do you plan to install the production line?

How easy is it to get from the project site to a port or a city? Are the roads good?

Do you plan to expand in the future? Do you want a production line that can make different types of feed?

When do you hope to finish building and start production?
Based on this information, we design a more tailored solution for the customer, ensuring that fish feed equipment configuration and process design are fully aligned with customers’ specific needs, helping them resolve operational challenges.
As requested by this customer from the Philippines, since they only intend to sell the fish feed (rather than self-use), the equipment configuration of this 5-ton/hour floating fish feed making line is very complete.
The final fish feed making line primarily includes the following sections:
Raw Materials Receiving & Handling
Verify the purchase specifications of raw materials such as corn, soybean meal, fishmeal, and calcium sources (e.g., oyster shell powder).
Store qualified raw materials separately in dedicated silos. When needed, a bucket elevator lifts raw materials through cleaning equipment, which removes large impurities like stones and weeds. A magnetic separator then extracts any metal contaminants.
01
Sistema de trituração
Pre-processed block or granular ingredients grind into uniform sizes, increasing surface area for even nutrient distribution during mixing.
A pulse dust collector is equipped to capture fine dust generated during grinding, reducing raw material loss and keeping the workshop clean.
02
Sistema de mistura
A PLC-controlled automatic batching system accurately weighs all raw materials. Base ingredients mix proportionally, while additives incorporate gradually.
The mixture feeds into a double-shaft paddle mixer, where water may be added to enhance adhesion.
03
Sistema de extrusão
The twin screw extruder is started, and the mixed materials are evenly fed by the feeder. The feeding speed matches the screw speed to prevent blockages or interruptions.
Inside the barrel, pressure and temperature are controlled to ensure complete starch gelatinization and protein denaturation.
04
Sistema de secagem
Extruded pellets move to a multi-layer belt dryer, removing excess moisture to extend shelf life and solidify structure for improved hardness and buoyancy stability.
05
Sistema de pulverização
Vacuum coating technology sprays oils, liquid vitamins, and attractants onto dried pellets, supplementing energy, improving palatability, and protecting heat-sensitive additives from degradation.
06
Cooling & Screening System
Coated pellets enter a counterflow cooler, where ambient air flows opposite to lower temperatures and remove residual moisture.
After cooling, grading screens separate qualified pellets for packaging; fragments and powder return to the crushing system for recycling.
07
Sistema de embalagem
The automatic packing machine is adjusted for the desired bag size. Empty woven bags with printed product labels are prepared.
Qualified pellets are filled into bags through the discharge port, automatically weighed, and sealed by the sewing machine.

Avaliação do cliente e estado de execução do projeto
A year ago, we delivered a complete fish feed mill solution to our Philippine client. One year later, our after-sales team conducted an on-site visit to see the real value the production line was bringing them. Based on their experience with operations during this period, the client provided us with detailed feedback on the project:
“We started small, making our own fish feed with a few feed making machines. We only produced about 10-20 tons a day, and the pellets were sometimes uneven—they wouldn’t float long enough, and farmers would complain.
Then, as more people around us started farming tilapia and milkfish, orders suddenly boomed. Our old equipment couldn’t keep up at all. We struggled to meet demand, and breakdowns happened all the time.
After comparing several suppliers, we went with RICHI. You really know your stuff when it comes to aquatic feed processing—your full production line plan was professional and felt trustworthy.
Now, our 5-ton/hour floating fish feed making line runs smoothly. The feed is well-expanded, floats for over 12 hours, and farmers are giving us way better feedback.”
